...MrGiraffe sent his friend to tell me that he was willing to stop watching the Lakers game to get hitched.

So we did. :D

Just had a great day going to Londontown Gardens and in a bit we're going to get Afghani food. Yum.

Happy Anniversary to [personal profile] akite, and brooklinegirl & mrsronweasley! Hope you all are having great days. ♥♥♥♥

New phone help!
So...

I need the wisdom of my peers.

I'm joining the 20th century (yes, I know, that still leaves me behind) and getting an Android. The ones that are available to me are: version 2.3, 4.0, 4.1, 4.4, and 5.0.

For various reasons, I'm leaning towards the 4.1.

Do any of you have OPINIONS about why this is a good or bad idea? Are there any things it does or doesn't do that might affect my decision?

Thanks!

(Feel free to pass this on to other Android users with OPINIONS.)

ETA: Whoops! The website is badly designed and the phone names weren't obvious. The choices are: LG Optimus Dynamic, Unimax MaxPatriot, LG L22C Power, ZTE Valet, Alcatel OneTouch Pop Icon, ZTE Zephyr Z752C, moto e, and Samsung Galaxy Centura.

And it runs farther...
Er. This might make more sense if you read this first.

RG: (to cat) It's PECAN PIE, you don't want any!

RG: (to MrG) Well? No quip?

MrG: Er...

RG: Obligate carnutivore?

MrG: Or maybe "obligate pecanivore".

So, fellow DWers, YOU DECIDE!

The G-Haus version. But does it scan?
ReginaGiraffe: Do I want to go for a walk? It's kind of hot outside.
MrGiraffe: *Baby*.
RG: "Baby, it's hot outside?"
MrG: Yeah! *happy because I got his reference*
RG: Is that the less creepy version of "Baby, it's cold outside"?
MrG: *laughs*
RG: "Baby, it's hot outside, but if you really want to go I won't stop you."
MrG: *laughs more*

A running gag...
July 14

@reginagiraffe
RG:(to cat) It's corn! You don't want any!
MrG: Yes, he does! You know why?
RG: Why?
MrG: Because he's an *obligate CORNivore*!

@rahaeli @reginagiraffe tell him to go sit in the corner and think about what he's done

@reginagiraffe I was cutting corn off the cob at the time and my response was, "I have a knife and I'm not afraid to use it!" :D

@reginagiraffe @rahaeli (And I told him your response and he laughed.)

@rahaeli @reginagiraffe It's my standard response to a joke that corny.

@reginagiraffe @rahaeli I have a KNIFE and I'm NOT AFRAID TO USE IT!

Today:

@jamethiel_bane Latte has decided that roast mashed potatoes are for cats.

@reginagiraffe @jamethiel_bane Oblitater carnivore?

@jamethiel_bane @reginagiraffe well done, I just snorted water out my nose

@reginagiraffe @jamethiel_bane \o/ :DDD

The last few nights:

Reginagiraffe: Think I'll get a good night's sleep. But first let me watch some episodes of Hannibal.
Brain: HAHAHAHA! Yeah, right.
RG: *dreams of being chased and getting strangled*

Er...perhaps that was a tactical error.

Stuff about Avengers:Age of Ultron
First, unrelated to the movie, this was probably the cleanest bathroom experience I'll ever have at a movie theater. The seat was up, which means I was the first to use it after it was cleaned, and I had to start the toilet paper roll which means it was brand new.

Spoilers for AoU, some big, some smallCollapse )

Overall, I liked it. And now I can read everyone's posts. \o/

27 years!
Today was the day MrGiraffe sent our best man down to the limo to tell me that he (MrGiraffe) gave up watching the Lakers' game just to come get married. :D

(For those who have never heard my definition of True Love, MrG is a Yankees fan, a Lakers fan, and he hates seafood... and I'm from Boston. And I married him anyway. :D)

(And he was totally joking about the Lakers game. I mean, he *was* watching it, but stopping was no hardship. I guess they must have been losing. :D)

(ETA: Heh. I looked it up. They lost to the Houston Rockets, 119-127.)

ALSO!! Happy Fifth Anniversary to brooklinegirl and mrsronweasley!! *smooch*

Fannish interactions in my brain
1) I've been reading the Alpha and Omega series by Patricia Briggs. The main characters want a baby but (in this series) werewolves can't have children because they have to transform once a month and the multiple transformations are too hard on the fetus. If they just transform once and stay a wolf, then they become feral and crazy and can't recognize the baby as a baby and... the baby still doesn't survive.

2) Due to the recent news, the Vorkosigan series has been on my mind.

So, of course, the answer is clear. The werewolves need uterine replicators!

They have money. They have time. They know people in high places. Time to get the NIH working on that [suddenly everything is a pun, no matter how I end this sentence. Baby? Puppy?].

Am I right!?

wheeeeee!
Oh God, what have I done.

In my last post I mentioned I got some new windows and doors.

In the room on the second floor, this caused the ugly wallpaper to start coming down. So tonight I started peeling it off. (And discovered that the douchebags that put it up, did so and THEN put up all the chair rails, molding, and fireplace. THANKS GUYS!) Which means scraping off all the old stuff (after peeling off the plastic covering) and putting up either new wallpaper or paint.

And because the new doors are insulated, I can't drill holes for curtains so I have to get the window covering stuff. And new curtains for the windows because the old blinds were gross.

And now that the floor is uncovered, I realize just how bad the carpet is. So that's going to have to go.

And now the room upstairs is fit for living (the old windows/door were BAD!) which means I can make it into a guest room, YAY! Which means new bed(s), new carpet, and other furniture.

And if I have a guest room, that means guests, which means I really need to get around to fixing the plumbing problems in the bathrooms and kitchen.

And in the kitchen, there's so much more light you can really see how bad the paint is.

Ahhh, the slippery slope of home improvement. Wheeeee!!

Geno?
I'm having some windows and doors installed. The guys doing it are an adorable group of Russian boys.

Today, the phone of one of them went off and his ringtone was "Heavy in the Back End" (is that the actual title? - ETA: Apparently it's "Wiggle"). I heard "Whatcha gonna do..." as he started frantically fumbling for his phone. "...with that big fat..." *click* "Da?" It was all I could do not to yell out "Butt!".

*dies laughing*

All I could think was, are you channeling Geno?

Back from MJ!
...for the last time. *sob*

The last vid of the vid show was a Due South vid which I got through with some tears but I was okay. And then I found myself in the lobby with people that I've known for more than a decade, completely due to DS, and I suddenly found myself *sobbing* uncontrollably. And I wasn't the only one.

The end of a very enjoyable era. *wipes face again*

So there was that.

The dance party was huge fun. Even the songs I didn't know were very dancable and they were the sort that by the second chorus, you knew the words. Apparently we were very successful in reaching the hotel booze requirement (by like 2 and a half times :DDD).

And there were panels. I enjoyed two in particular:

1) The "Fannish Infrastructure" panel, very capably modded by [personal profile] bethbethbeth, which was basically a list of things you can do to expand/add value to fandom if you don't write fanfic, do fanart, or vid. Very useful and inspiring.

(Someone took a pic of the list. If you know where it's posted, please leave a comment.)

ETA: Here's the list. Thanks, Beth!

2) The "Pictionary" panel, modded by [twitter.com profile] cz_nz, which was as fun as usual.

People had started yelling out "One Direction!" at the beginning of every clue, whether it had anything to do with 1D or not. So when it was my turn and the clue was "Harry Styles and Stiles Stilinski meet at a wedding and have sex under a table", I just looked expectantly at the group and made a little "come on" gesture. Someone obligingly yelled out "One Direction!", and I was off to a quick start without even drawing anything. :DDD

Thanks to [personal profile] brooklinegirl et. al. for all their hard work and dedication. Love you guys!!

MJ!! (And room offering)
I'm off to jamboree with the muskrats in about an hour and won't have internet access (unless I can borrow someone's computer).

My roommates had some unexpected issues and won't be able to make it so I have a bed available in my room if someone is still looking for one. I have it Thursday night through Saturday night. If you only need it one or two of those mights, that's cool, too.

Hope to see you there or I'll see you when I get back!

Ciao!

Now that it's not Pi Day...
I confess I'm not a huge fan of pie. The non-fruit ones (pecan, pumpkin, coconut cream) are okay, I guess.

But I think someone should come up with a mathematical constant that's called "kayk".

ETA: I just posted my 3,141st tweet (a day late). :D

Update - Friday
He's home!!

He's exhausted and in pain from the journey but so very very happy to be home.

They took one of the drains out at 1:00 and it stopped seeping pretty quickly. The other drain they didn't take out until 4:00 and that one is still seeping quite a bit. Hopefully it will stop by tomorrow or I might have to call them. (It's just clear fluid, not blood.)

Now it's just a matter of him not doing too much too soon... (not hopeful about that one - *sigh*).

Thanks again for all of your good wishes!!

Update
The Good:
He's finally out of recovery ("Post Anesthesia Care Unit", *rolls eyes*) and into a regular room (which means no more "only a 15 min visit at the top of the even hours" bullshit).

He's off the I.V. and onto oral pain meds, which is good because it means it'll be easier to get to sleep since the I.V. unit was making this really annoying clicking sound and since the pain meds will be a big dose every 4 hours rather than a small dose every 15 minutes. The first night while on I.V., he was dozing and missed a few possible doses and the pain ended up getting really bad, which made it counter-productive to go to sleep.

He's been sitting up and has been eating regular meals.

He's been getting up by himself and walking to use the bathroom.

His drains are starting to dry up a little (esp. one of them).

His incision is healing really well and the doctors are really pleased (apparently he has thick skin, which tends to heal quicker).

The Bad:
He has a numb patch on his thigh. Apparently this is not unusual (and is due to the awkward position he was in during the long surgery) but will take several weeks to resolve. It's not getting any worse, which is good.

His blood sugar is a little high (not unusual after anesthesia but not awesome).

He's in a fair amount of pain. They had him use a "hair cap shampoo" thing, which made his hair cleaner but was quite painful to use (he had to rub his head with it on, which uses a lot of back muscles). Next time I'll do the rubbing for him.

The recliner/chair he's been in using in the regular room isn't as comfortable as the one in the recovery room and he's been having trouble finding a comfortable way to sit.

He's getting cranky and really wants to go home.

****

Now that he's in a regular room, I can be there more of the time and fetch and carry for him. I bought him a cherry danish this morning (not good for his blood sugar but he wolfed it down and it made him happy).

Update
It's amazing how exhausting sitting on your butt for 15 hours can be!

MrGiraffe is doing well. I finally got to see him at 8:10PM.

His surgery was *supposed* to be at 7:00AM but there was an emergency and they needed the OR for a stroke patient. He finally went in at 11:15 and the surgery started at 12:45. He got done by about 5:00 and was in recovery by 6:45 but because they only let you visit at the top of the even hours, I couldn't see him until the 8 o'clock slot.

I'm hoping to get to the hospital by the 10:00 slot but I still have to shovel and move the car to the other side of the street and then catch the bus so I gotta fly.

More details tonight.

Thanks for all your good wishes!
